Populations Served

Children and Adolescents

With children and adolescents, I work with presenting issues including anxiety, depression, anger management, behavioral challenges, stress management, self-esteem enhancement, coping skill development and refinement, and adjustment difficulties.

I use a combination of telehealth adapted play-based and talk therapy interventions with children.  I structure my sessions with youth and their families using a hybrid model, spending about half of each session working with parent(s) to refine a variety of parenting skills, and about half of each session working directly with the child.

With adolescent clients, early in treatment I like to spend the beginnings of sessions with parents, shifting to increasingly more time spent with the adolescent alone as treatment progresses.  Parent consultations continue to be welcome throughout treatment as warranted.

Adults

With adults, I work with presenting issues including anxiety, depression, grief, stress management, self-esteem enhancement, coping skill development and refinement, and adjustment difficulties.  I draw from a combination of CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) and supportive treatments in a manner tailored to best meet a client’s unique needs.

Parent Training

I offer parent training either alone or in conjunction with child or adolescent treatment.

Approach

General

Some clients find it most useful to begin treatment with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help reduce symptom intensity while learning coping strategies that can be used for short-term and longer-term relief.  CBT is a structured type of therapy that helps people change unhelpful thoughts and behaviors to more effectively cope with life challenges.  Other clients prefer a less directive approach, seeking more of a nonjudgemental listener to provide support and guidance to help them through a challenging time.  For a third group, a hybrid of each is a better fit.  I work to tailor my approach to the individual’s preference and clinical circumstances.  I enjoy helping clients find a path that works for them as they tap into their unique areas of strength.

Parent Training

A specialty in parent-training seemed a natural fit for me given my background in child and adolescent therapy coupled with my work with adults.  I offer parent training alone or in conjunction with child or adolescent therapy.  I completed level 4 Individual Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) training and am an accredited provider for parents of children ages 2-12.  I will be receiving training in SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions).

Self Esteem

A healthy self-image can set someone up for success.  I draw from CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) techniques as well as strength-based approaches to help individuals better appreciate skills they already possess and to draw upon those skills to help with areas of challenge.  I work with clients of all ages to focus on finding the positive within themselves and in the situations around them while helping them look for solutions when solutions are called for.
